A typical day... !!
9.00 am - get up in the morning, realize its late .. blame it on alarm clock !!
10:15 am : reach office, check email in outlook. Hopefully no hot brewing issues which require immediate attention. Then log in to gmail /orkut, see if any interesting emails or scraps.
10:30am : read a bit of lightreading.com ( btw telecom industry news) , yahoo finance, business week, cricinfo and get warmed up, which sets the mood for the day :P
10: 45am - continue working on the code, you left yesterday night.
1:00pm - think of lunch, its canteen down stairs, or working lunch in cubicle or nearby restaurant. all depends on how much work I have. Start thinking why I am stuck in this all- male geeky team. Where are all pretty girls ?? If you are in a kernel developement / embedded systems team, except HR or receptionist you will hardly find any girl in the team :P :(
5:00 pm - realize its evening, make a mental note of how much work left. Soon you will realize there is a build-release 2 days later and you have to check in the code.
6:00pm - you will promise yourself that you are going to finish this in half an hour, then its time for some work out in gym or swimming. You tell yourself, you don't want to be those workoholics and keep working even after 7:00 pm and have no other life.
6:30pm - Oh man.. your build system is broken, and it will take atleast 2 hours more to fix it.
7:00pm - Hungry :O plan is changed now. Go home have dinner, relax for some time. Then work from home over VPN.
7:30pm - have dinner, watch some serial ( Scrubs, seinfiled). Bit of talking with flat mate, usually todays stock market, US elections, world politics !!!
9:00pm - Back to work. Plan to finish this in 2 hours and then watch some nice movie late night. Then suddenly some one pings you in gtalk. I am busy to strike a conversation, so run away. Yet another soul thinks, you are very rude, or not friendly [ what ever depends on who is that person]
12:00 mid night : Finally your code is in some shape and working ( hopefully !! ). Say yourself that its too late for a movie. So let me finish one chapter in the novel I am reading now.
1:00 am - Its time to go bed. You will say, from tomorrow definately I am saving some time for work out, also its been long time I watched an interesting movie. And what the hell, I am in SFO, should hit some nice club this weekend !!!

are you busy.. ??
I used to consider myself pretty busy, weekdays hardly any time for anything else other than work. I was talking to a person, who is planning to move from semiconductor industry to Investment banking. think about this...
An average invest banking associate, say in Goldman Sachs spends at least 80 hours a week in work for atleast first 4 years, until he becomes VP.
thats startling... some motivated, crazy guys even log 90 - 100 hours a week.
May be thats a sacrifice , when you make more than 200k per year.
Now I need to rethink or rephrase... when I say or think I am busy :P :)

Politics.. shouldn't it concern us ?
I was watching Larry King show on CNN today. He was interviewing Oliver Stone about his upcoming film about George W Bush. I was really pleased to see such a high profile director taking so much interest in political events and who had clear opinion about everything.
Politics is some thing which touches our daily life. Decisions made by these people affect our life so much.
I do not see any Bollywood guys taking any stance on political events or having any meaningful conversation [ I should say except Aamir Khan ] . Most of them can not talk anything beyond page 3. Most of us talk / think / involve so much about Movies, Cricket. Is not political events more important than these ? I guess most of our directors are happy making same old masala movies.

mobile phones .. next frontier
Today , I got a chance to attend a talk by CEO of Nokia, . It was very interesting. He was mainly talking about how mobile and internet worlds are converging. Some interesting statistics like Nokia was founded on 1865 and how fast we have around 4 billion mobiles now. Thats about 2 mobile phones for 3 people.
He was talking about joint strategy of Nokia and Symbian. How to tackle new guys in game like google and apple. He was a very humble guy for a Nokia worldwide CEO. Imagine you are like most powerful man in Mobile industry.
I kinda got up to date with whats happening in telecom industry and a glimpse of High profile corporate get togethers. It was very diverse group.. financial firms, tech companies, people from Japan, Russia, Finland.

Dostoevsky.. the legend
I have read so many authors, but no one can come near Dostoevsky. That craziness, depth of analysis and ability to make you think, these are mind boggling. This 20th century Russian , supposedly wrote for sheer love of it and partly to support his gambling addiction. Now reading his notes from underground novel. Whole novel dwells into darker psychology. He tells that he will never achieve anything [ actually in sense of materialistic world ]. Because he is too conscious. And worst part is he thinks !!! Its so true. Life is hard once you start thinking about everything and start asking questions.

Acura RSX :)
Finally bought a car :) Buying a car is a big head ache. Much bigger head ache if you are looking for a good used car deal.
Initially hunt started with a BMW or Audi. But frightening costly repairs for German cars made me think otherwise. I never liked Mercedes or Lexus. They are too conservative designs, suited for old and straight arrow people. And I wanted something different from regular Toyota corolla or Honda Civic. So it boiled down to a Acura, Subaru or Infinity. I did not like acceleration or looks of a Subaru. So got to test drive some acuras. Acura RSX stole my heart. Its unfortunate that its no longer produced because of brand management muddle between Honda and Acura Divisions.
So I got hold of a used, made in Japan Acura RSX. Its perfect car when you are a bachelor.
Fast , great handling , reliable , not too big and sporty.

Marriage... Is this going to change ?
As we know, for thousands of years, institution of marriage has been held with utmost respect and followed rigorously by human race irrespective of creed, color and location. This system has helped society in multiple ways, including warding off chaos and filling a sense of purpose in life. Encouragement to monogamy and divine status to motherhood, all these have ensured that this institution of marriage does not fall apart. Marriage ensures that planet earth will have enough humans carry on the civilization without much disruption. But today we have more than enough number of men and women to carry on this tradition, without any danger of diminishing numbers in near future. So is it time to loosen this institution for a bit ? If some men or women chose to escape from this responsibility and follow other pursuits in life, should we accept them without much ado ? Does everyone need marriage for self realization. Should our life revolve around marriage all the time ? I think its fine if some people chose the other way and try to be productive to society by doing some thing else. Some times I keep thinking, what should I chose, should I get off the hook of responsibility or take it in a lighter way or jump into the band wagon of marriage with full faith and hope for the eternal bliss :) Is this world going to miss my genes if I chose the other way :P :)
